Speech Writing

Most writers consider writing speeches as “the ultimate” in copywriting. One reason may well be that there is a close association between speeches and famous public figures.

Or what is your first association when you hear the word “speech”?

The German chancellor’s speech? The federal president’s address to the nation on New Year’s Eve? Or the latest annual general meeting with all the facts, propositions and hypotheses presented by the chairman of the board?

That’s not wrong, but it’s not completely correct either…

Speech writers keep a low profile and are active in numerous areas, for there is always the expectation on the part of the listener that the “right thing” has to be said in all situations, especially those which have a major, long-term relevance for the speaker.

Presentations? In connection with awarding a contract? Someone’s wedding – and the couple and guests should remember your words (one way or another), ideally throughout their lives? You frequently have to address groups or teams and motivate them to achieve the goals? You do not have enough practice and this is your first exposure to the media?

This is “more correct”!

A speech is indeed a challenging and demanding text: apart from providing authentic communication between the speaker and his audience, the right combination of objectivity, facts, emotions and probably even a certain humor that fits the occasion is required. This is the task of the speech writer who should have the ability to put himself in the speaker’s shoes, know his mind-set and often also train the speaker to deliver the upcoming speech with conviction.

Over the past several years, Urs Koenig has supported professional speech writing and speech writers in practice and with words that make their mark.

Since 2003, proprietor Urs C. Koenig has been a member of the Verband der Redenschreiber deutscher Sprache (German association of speechwriters for the German language).

For an accurate and convincing delivery of your speech, we also offer individual training courses for delivering speeches. The purpose of these courses is to ensure that the speaker is prepared for his public appearance and his words are spoken effectively and with conviction.
